The irreverently titled Family Values Tour - which "certainly proved to be one of the rock spectacles of the year," noted the Los Angeles Times--is back. The brainchild of Korn, their management company The Firm, and Metropolitan Entertainment, it will launch year number two September 21 in Pittsburgh at the Pittsburgh Civic Center, hitting approximately 30 cities until it concludes October 31 in Biloxi at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Family Values Tour - 1999 dates

1999's line-up of the Sega® Dreamcast™ & ARTISTdirect.com Present The Family Values Tour features headliners Limp Bizkit, along with Filter and The Crystal Method. DMX is also set for the tour's launch and will do the first half of the tour (exact dates TBA at press time) until Method Man & Redman jump in for the remainder of the dates. Stay tuned for news of opening acts. Meanwhile, Sega of America and ARTISTdirect.com have signed up to sponsor this year's Family Values Tour , with MTV as a supporting media sponsor.

Sega is the exclusive video game company of the tour, showcasing the 128-bit, Internet-ready Sega Dreamcast video game console, which launches on September 9 in the United States. Concert attendees can test drive Sega's new console and games in the "Sega Dreamcast Mobile Assault Tour" arena and compete in the "Sega Dreamcast Championships" game competition for the $15,000 grand prize. The "Sega Dreamcast Mobile Assault Tour" arena is comprised of a two ton assault truck and two all-terrain vehicles housing Sega Dreamcast game kiosks.

ARTISTdirect.com will host The Family Values Tour's official website. The site will include live webcasts, a daily tour diary, audio, video and text chats, behind-the-scenes photos and exclusive interviews. Additionally, the ARTISTdirect site will feature online contests, including fly-away trips and ticket giveaways.

Fans can once again count on elaborate stage designs for each band; larger-than-life light and laser shows; pyrotechnics; and short set changes between each performance. Fans entering the arena will be made to feel like they have just walked into their own personal musical playroom of sorts.

The first-ever Family Values Tour - which lasted from September 22-October 31,1998--made good on Korn's promise to bring arena rock `n' roll sound-and-sight extravaganzas back to the fans.

Featuring one of the heaviest cutting-edge concert line-ups in rock history--Korn, Rammstein, Ice Cube, Limp Bizkit, Orgy and Incubus - the 27 dates which ran from September 22-October 31 grossed more than $6.4 million. Over 243,000 attendees came out to see this tour, which "created a bold new profile for hard guitar bands," according to Jim Farber of the New York Daily News.

"The Family Values Tour"'s debut outing last year even spawned a gold-certified live album and platinum-certified companion home video, which are still implanted on Billboard's "Top 200 Albums" chart (at #192 after 20 weeks), "Top Music Videos" chart (at #10 after 20 weeks) and "Top Video Sales" chart (at #26 after 18 weeks). Both the hour-plus album and 86-minute video (most of which were recorded live in New Orleans at the UNO Lake Front Arena on October 18, 1998) give fans a glimpse into the world of the critically acclaimed tour.

"Last year's tour worked with the kids," says Jeff Kwatinetz of The Firm. "The kids who were there knew how great it was and the street buzz was phenomenal. This music is vitally important and we create a great environment for the fans to hear many of today's most exciting bands in one place." Peter Katsis of The Firm notes: "We're trying to stay on top of what's happening, but we like to say that we're doing it the old-fashioned way. Rock & roll was always something scary that you're parents didn't want to know about. With acts like Limp Bizkit and DMX, we're trying to keep those old `family values.'"

Says John Scher of Metropolitan Entertainment: "The Family Values Tour was not only a great business success, but more importantly, a rousing success with the fans. I think, to a great degree, we accomplished what we set out to: creating a fun, wild evening with a unique atmosphere and incredible music. We're looking forward to making it all happen again with this year's line-up."

And as Korn noted about the tour's premiere outing: "We're creating some rock history with this tour. From that first show, we had goosebumps upon goosebumps and we could feel that we created something special."

On July 19th, 1999 frontman Jonathan Davis accepted the world's first CDDB Silicon CD for his band Korn's Follow the Leader. The CDDB Silicon CD Award recognizes an artist's success with the wired fan.

Said Jonathan Davis upon accepting the award: "This is really something exciting, something new. This is not like the traditional gold records and plaques you get, you know. I feel really honored to get this and we are happy because we've worked so hard with the Internet and we use it as a tool to help get our band out."

Korn is also nominated for 9 music video awards down at MTV. Korn is also scheduled to preform on Mtv  music awards. "Freak on a leash" got nominated for the best video of the year, the best rock video... Just check it out on 9/9/99. P.S. if you want to vote for them click here.
